The Right Look for Your Wedding Invitations

October 11th, 2009 by shanon

You, like most brides, probably want to send out unique wedding invitations, but how do you choose the right one? Creating an impressive and originally invitation can be a challenge. There are many things to think about and budget is one of them. But they can be affordable and meet all of your expectations at the same time.

Today I have written up a short little article about how you can save and be creative at the same time. Let’s get started.

Do you love flowers?

Many women dream of a wedding on the beach, these are truly romantic events and on that will stay in people’s memories for many years to come. Think how special it would be to say your vows to a setting sun!

If you’re planning a beach side wedding, or want to incorporate flowers into your invitations, keep reading. One excellent way you can customize your invites is by utilizing subtle accents. These not only make it personal they also appear grander than a plain un-garnished card.

Adding the personal touch isn’t difficult, you just need a little time and some imagination. Take a trip to your local arts and crafts store and see what they have to offer. You can find flowers and other scrap-booking details that will work perfectly here. By fixating them on the corners of the invitation you will be creating a brooch like effect. It doesn’t have to be expensive, you can also find similar material at a lower price at your local dollar store. Most of these stores will have some sort of flower section that you can make use of. Pick out an exotic looking flower to use on your invitations.

Real flowers also work, and are a personal preference of mine.

Depending on the type of flowers you choose these can be a rather practical solution. Simply take the flowers of you choice, flowers that match your invite’s color, then find a book that you can press them in. One thing to keep in mind when you use this technique is that they need to be prepare ahead of time. Pressing flowers will take anywhere from one to two months. Once you have them pressed coat them with a clear sealant and glue them to your wedding invitations. Amazing!

For the Autumn and Nature Lovers

If you decide to celebrate your wedding in the fall, I applaud you, you have picked an amazing time of year to get married. The time of year should also be kept in mind, fall weddings generally have a very distinctive theme. The colors are warmer, cream and gold is a good choice here.

Since this is a pretty popular color all year round you will find plenty of craft material to create your motif. And the material are often on sale at this time of the year. If you happen to fined paper that has been pressed with leaves, a beautiful choice, make your invitations with this. Not every craft store will have this type of paper though. If that is the case you can always improvise and buy small embossed leaf stickers that you can fixate on the corners. When you go to the craft store inspiration won’t be far behind!

Make choices that fit with your personal style and taste.

A Love for Patterns

When people usually think of weddings, patterns are not one of them. Well, they weren’t. Patters have been growing in popularity over the years, and wedding-stationary has moved to accommodate that. You can pick from an almost limitless number of patterns, whatever you settle on make sure that the style is unified.

Patterns, while trendy can be hard to combinate. And a if the design gets too busy, well, it will make it hard to focus on what is really important. The use of patterns really does take an artistic eye, but if you feel up for the challenge don’t hesitate to give patterns a try.

When wedding invitations are styled with patters they are sure to have the modern look that many brides are after. A general rule, and this goes for the use of patterns in any situation, never mix more than three. Look at the what your arts and crafts store has to offer, hold them up together and pick the one that best fits your needs.

P.S. I would like to thank Melinda for letting me link to the examples of wedding invitations she has on here website. You’re a doll sweetheart!

Picking Wedding Invitations to Match Your Theme

August 26th, 2008 by shanon

Selecting wedding invitations to match a color scheme might seem unimportant. But it is defiantly one aspect of your wedding not to overlook. Why? Well, wedding invitations are the first taste of your wedding that potential guest will see. This sets up the whole tone of the wedding and the colors you choose here will be ingrained in your family and friend’s minds.

There are different palettes that you can chose that will fit easier together with your floral arrangements decorations.

White on Black

You can’t get much more chic than this. Monochrome wedding invitations have always been in style, however, in recent years their popularity has reached an all time high.

Make sure that you choose a simple invitation with this color scheme for the best effect.

Gold on Cream

One popular element that is often incorporated into wedding invitations is gold foil on cream colored complimentary paper. Gold and cream fit absolutely wonderfully together and are one of the more traditional colors choices.

These colors create a warmth that produces a relaxing atmosphere for your wedding. You can do this in multiple ways, either through the aforementioned gold foil or through gold colored ribbon. This adds an extra bit of elegance to the invitation, and when combined with deep red roses is simply breathe taking for Autumn weddings.

Silver on White

Another good choice is silver on white, this is not only elegant it is just the right amount of chic. These invitations are often styled a little simpler, a little more subdued but the combination provide all of the detail that you will need.

Consider having them printed in silver ink to drive the effect home, and make these wedding invitations really winners.

If you are planning a winter wedding then this is definitely a good choice.

Pink on White

Since you husband to be is letting you pick out the wedding invitations why not let your imagination go wild. Pink is another romantic color, and one that radiates a soft and gentle mood. Think how pretty a pink rose on a vivid white wedding invitation would be. Silver ink or foil again works very with this stationary.

Lime Green and Purple

No it isn’t a ice cream treat, but it is a treat for the eyes. This might not be a standard color combination but it will defiantly be one that people notice.

Both of these colors have their own story. And they draw a picture in the recipients mind of royalty, elegance and freshness. Purple has long been known as a royal color but it also comes with a certain amount of stuffiness. The lime green on the other hand draws forth a sense of youth and health.

Mint Green and Red

Staying with the subject of unusual pleasing color combinations why not try red and green. These colors bring forth a feeling of romance and intimacy. These colors were very popular in the vintage era of wedding invitations, the 1950’s. So if you are planning a themed wedding from that time then this might just be the color combination you were looking for.

Cream and Chocolate

Here we are back at the food related color schemes. But they are all just so delicious. When you’re picking out your chocolate and cream colors, think in pastels. Do not choose colors that are too deep or vibrant, if you follow this simple rule you’re sure to have a gorgeous invitation.

Why did I choose to write about wedding invitations today? Recently I found a website that specializes in wedding invitations. They have a beautiful selection of styles that borders on being overwhelming.

As I was browsing their website I relaized that a lot of young women may not be able to choose from such a large selection and decided to write this article. I hope that you had as much fun reading it as I had writing it and that you also found it informative.
